Produced from Chenin Blanc. Sebastien's best dry wine, from old vines, about 80 years of age, planted on a slope of clay and limestone and fermented in seasoned 400-litre barrels. This is exquisite - mineral, slightly reductive (in the attractive way) and tightly wound. It has layers and layers of flavours that slowly uncoil, though it took 5 days in my fridge for that to happen. This is exciting dry Vouvray and right up there with the very very best.
Vouvray is a style of wine I adore and so I have been on a mission for some time to find a Vouvray to fit in to my portfolio but I'm extra fussy. I wanted something fine, mineral, fresh and mouth-watering and this is not as easy as you might think.
After years and having tasted many I am happy to say that I have found it in the brilliant wines of Sébastien Brunet. Sébastien assumed control of his family domaine in 2006 following the untimely passing of his father, and has quickly become one of the Loire's fastest rising stars. All his wines are of exemplary quality.
